FAQ'S
What training method do you use?
The training method I use helps the dog to learn to offer acceptable behaviours themselves. I want them to be part of the training process learning to think for themselves (co-operative training). In our sessions I take you through small achievable exercises you can practice that starts to encourage your dog to want to offer a good behaviour. At the next session assuming they are confidently offering the behaviour we build from there adding verbal words to the behaviour and / or making it more challenging. Obviously, they are not robots so they will make mistakes, but I can show you what to do and how to help them try again. Overall, the aim is that your dog values behaving politely, and they want to listen to you. My training methods do not use fear, intimidation or pain but instead build a strong relationship, between dog and caregiver, based on trust, joy and understanding.
Do you offer payment plans?
You are more than welcome to pay off your training program in small amounts over time. I can update the invoice as payments come in. Once the final payment is made then we will schedule the first session to begin the program.

Why hire a trainer, isn't there enough videos on You Tube?
Fantastic Question! There are certainly plenty of dog training videos on You Tube, however how do you know you are getting expert advice? Anyone can put videos on You Tube! By hiring a certified professional dog trainer through The Whole Canine you know you have someone with expert knowledge of dogs and their behaviour. Someone who will tailor the training to your individual dog and give you personalised guidance as you train your dog. Don't waste time hoping to stumble upon a random video that "might" help, get the level of expertise you and your dog deserve!
What program will I need for my dog?
There is not a set answer for this question. It will depend on a lot of factors including but not limited to; your dogs personality, their age, the behavioural concerns, the intensity of the unwanted behaviours, how quickly and confidently you pick up the training techniques, how much time you have during the week to dedicate to your dog’s training, how high your expectations are of your dogs behaviour. The best way to think about dog training is the same way you might think about learning any new skill. If you wanted to learn a new language would you have two lessons and then expect to be able to speak and understand French, Chinese etc or what about learning to play the piano, how much support would you need? Both you and your dog are learning to communicate with each other, your dog is learning what behaviours you are expecting from them and what all these new words mean – sit, drop, bed etc. I have a number of programs available with different duration lengths, expected training outcomes and levels of support. Training is for life between you and your dog…how long you need professional assistance for or how much support you want is individual to each human / dog relationship.
